IBM T-30 BIOS Battery
by: Support

Hello Dave,

Sounds more like the BIOS backup battery has died.

It is located under the laptop battery, is about the size of a quarter and is in a yellow plastic protective cover, it has a red and black wires that goes from the battery to a connector for the motherboard.

The last time I had to replace one I got it from IBM and that was over six years ago so you may have to get the part number off of the battery and do a search on the internet for a replacement.

Here is a source for laptop parts, they may or may not have a replacement battery.

As for the time/date you need to press F1 at the IBM startup screen, this will get you in to the BIOS setting, from there you can set the time and date then the computer will start, as for not seeing the F12 for a list of bootable devices that is in the BIOS start up section, you can set the time it waits for the F12 keypress.

How ever when you remove the A/C power from the computer you will loose the BIOS settings (they revert to default settings when the BIOS battery is dead) and will have to go to F1 and set the time and date before the computer will start.

Hope this helps...
