DVD will not open

by Ronnie
(Murfreesboro,NC)

My DVD player want open unless I stick a paper clip in the little hole. The computer is old and using the Me network.

Bought about 2000.

Can I replace the DVD or is it not worth the trouble?

Should I try and add 1gb of memory?

Thanks for your help. Ronnie

DVD tray will not open when commanded
by: Support

Hello Ronnie,

Sounds like the electronics for the tray have failed.

A new DVD isn't expensive, around $20-30. You can removed the old one and install a new one, I have an article about how to do it here -

Installing a Hard Drive

Installing the hardware either hard drive or DVD will be the same.

If the computer is old a 1 GB module may not be available that will fit the slots on the motherboard. I think the max was 512 Mega Bytes because the largest module was 128 MB and most motherboards of that time frame only had 4 slots.

You can see what is available by checking with Kinkston.com You can put in the manufacture and computer model and query all available memory in stock on the site.

Hope this helps...
