Hardware drivers will not install
by: Support

Hello Chris,

Three things will keep a driver from installing:

1) User ID does not have suffecnt rights.
2) The wrong driver is being installed.
3) The driver package is corrupt.

You did not indicate what OS you are using so I will assume Windows Vista/Windows 7.

# 1 - If the ID you are using does not have Administrators rights then you can not install drivers. Log on as the Administrator or right click on the install program and select 'Run as ...' or 'Run as Administrator'

# 2 - When you look at the Device Manager does it show the device (such as the Network Card) by name or as 'Unknown device'? The best way to get the correct drivers on the computer is to configure the Network first, then you can go to the manufactures web site and download the correct drivers or use the Microsoft Automatic Updat to get the correct drivers.

# 3 - It is a possiblity that the driver package you downloaded is corrupt, you may have to go back and get the package again.

Here is a site I use for drivers when I can't find them anywhere else:

http://nodevice.com/

Note:
If you are working on a computer with Windows 7 installed every time you access a 'privildged' program or hardware you shsould get a UAC warring, you can set the level for this warning by going to the start button and selecting Getting started, then to 'Change UAC Settings'. Set the level to the lowest level, this will keep you from answering OK for every step, which may be what is causing the driver install to fail.

Windows 7 Ultimate Guide

Hope this helps ...
