cooling fan running at max all the time

by Alan C
(Houston Texas)

I have a dell inspiron 530s desktop and the fan is so noisy from running at full rpm that it is extremly annoying.
So far I have cleaned the computer on the inside. Cleared away any clutter around the system. Updated the Bios. and still no luck.

I have even tried running it with no case on to see if it reduces the fan speed at all.
This has been going on for months and there is no problem with the fan, for instance bearings or anything.
As soon as the computer turns on its full rpm, and never dimenishes.
Currently running windows 7 but I had the same problem with vista

Can you help?

Processor fan at max at all times
by: Support

Hello Alan,

The processor fan is controled by the tempature of the processor and/or motherboard.

If the processor fan runs at max at all times then either the thirmistor (the sensor that controls the speed of the fan) has failed or the BIOS settings are not correct.

I suggest you go in to the BIOS settings and check the fan settings, you should be able to set it for the slow speed of the fan and then the hi speed of the fan by tempature.

If it is all ready set for a low and high tempature but the fan doesn't slow down then your options are:

Replace the fan (the cheapest)
Replace the motherboard (is it out of waranty?)

ASUS gives you some utilities that you can control the fans in the computer with out going in to the BIOS, unfortantely Dell does not do this.

Hope this helps ...
