I turned on my computer and it makes a constant Audio tone and nothing else. Help! is the computer broke? I've unpluugged and replugged it back in but it still makes the same noise.

The computer is only 3 years old, the fans work I can here them and feel air movement.

Beep code
by: Support

Hello Stuart,

A constant beep from the computer speaker (not the stero speakers) means that a component has failed.

A constant beep (depending on the manufacture) means that the Processor or the memory has failed or is miss aligned in a slot.

You need to go to the motherboard manufactures web site and see it they provide beep codes.

You can try this -

Open the comptuer case, note where the memory modules are and using a anti-static stap connected to you and the computer take out one of the memory modules. (Note how the memory is in the slot, you will need to put it back in shortly). If you have two or more memory modluels remove all but one, normally the base memory is in the memory module closetst to the processor, leave this one in.

Power up the computer, do you still have the constant beep from the computer speaker?

If not then one of the memory modules that you removed has failed.

If you still have the constant beep, power the computer down and remove the final memory modle.

Power up the computer, do you see an error on the screen or a constant beep?

If you see the error on the screen power the system down and put one of the other modules back in the first socket. Be sure that both the retaining clips on each end click when you press the memory module down in the socket.

Power it up, did the constant beep go away?

If it did then the last memory module you took out has failed, you will need to replace it.

If the constant beep is still present then either the motherboard has failed or the processor has failed.

Hope this helps...
