Computer only beeps when powered up after memory up grade.
by: Support

Hello Suryakant,

If you upgraded your memory and then the computer gives you a series of beeps then the memory may be the wrong type/speed or it has not been seated in the socket correctly.

If you removed the memory and put back the orginal memory did it seat correctly, that is did both the locks 'SNAP' when the modules were pressed in to the sockets?

How many modules do you have? One or two? If you have two are they exactly the same? If they are different then the smaller module should go in the # 1 slot. Do you rememeber how the memory came out of the slots?

Try this -

With the power cord disconnected from the computer, remove the memory (this is the orgianl memory) and swap the slots they are in.

This will accomplsh two things - the power cord disconnected will allow the resdiual power on the mother board to disapate, swapping the memory modules may put them back in the orginal positions. Make sure you hear the 'SNAP' when you press the modules in to the slots.

Power up? Beeps or did it start?

If it still beeps you have more than mismatched memory problems.

Check the HP site for beep codes, write down how many long beeps and how many short beeps you get then compare that with the HP sites beep codes.

Hope this helps...
