Aug 05, 2010 Rating Formating a hard drive with an Operating System on it. by: Support Hello Russel, If you had an Operating System (OS), such as Vista, on the hard drive and you formatted it then the OS is no longer there. Formatting will wipe your hard drive clean. You will need to install Vista once again from the orginal media that came with the computer or that you bought. Hope this helps...
