Blank Screen

by John
(Indian Trail, NC)

For the past couple months I have been having a problem where the pc will go to sleep when not it use and when you move the mouse or tap the space bar, nothing comes up. Sometimes it will make a loud fan type of noise. I hold the power button to turn it off and then on again, and sometimes it takes a little while before the windows come up on the monitor. I replaced the monitor I had and went about a month without the problem, now it is happening again, with the new monitor. I am not sure if the processor or mother board are going out or what. Please help.

Computer going in to standby
by: Support

Hello John,

You problem may not be the monitor but the the feature "hibernation" or "standby" that is the computer is shuting it self down after a peroid of inactivity.

The standby mode is in two places, one is the BIOS, in the Power Section, you can set the time out for standby for a longer period of inactivity or disable it all together.

It is also in the Control Panel under the Power Settings.

If you run programs in the back ground and leave the computer unattended for lengths of time then you should either set it for over an hour or disable it.

Hope this helps...
