Black Screeen and vertical green lines.

by Mario
(Los Angeles)

While surfing online, suddenly nothing but a black screen.

So, I tried a restart, and before the logo Vaio , I noticed red vertical lines and the logo with a white shadow ,at the potions boot list selecting normal, and windows operating system looked like loading but the screen now is black with green dashed lines running vertically, windows never got to the welcome logon screen.

The first time, I was able to start in safe mode,I checked hardware status, evrything looked good, so I tried system restore, but nothing changed.

Using the recovery partition tools, checked HDD and CPU, they OKs, next a memory test, OK.

Trying reseting to the factory state also fails as reseting the BIOS to the original values.

Video display problems
by: Support

Hello Mario,

From the sysmptoms you have describle it would point to a Video Dispaly failure or in the starting stages of failure.

Most of what you have done proabably hasn't changed anything on the hard drive, unless the display was working properly when you did the restore it would not have completed with out answering all the questions.

What I think is going bad (indicated by the verticle lines) is the power inverter is failing.

There is a way to test this, with the power off if you have a can of compressed air put the nozzel extender (the thin red pipe) in a hole on the back of the monitor, blow compressed air inside the case top/bottom/left/right sides.

Power it up, the lines still there? If so then the inverter is going to or already has failed. If the are not there leave it on for a while, once it warms up are the lines there? If they are then the inverter is the failed part, if not then let the computer run and see what happens.

I have never seen an inverter fix itself.

I also don't think it is the OS, drivers, or the Video chip set embedded on the motherboard.

Hope this helps ...
