Back-up with Maxtor OneTouch not working

by Reg
(New England)

I am currently running Windows VISTA on a year-old PC in need of a good back-up.

I have a Maxtor OneTouch 4Plus but can't get it to operate. I installed the software on my system last week and though I could see the OneTouch in My Computer on H: and it shows up in AutoPlay, it is not recognized by the software so I can't get a back-up started from the software.

Is there any way to do a back-up bypassing the Maxtor software?

Maxtor One Step
by: Support

Hello Reg,

If you can see the drive but the backup program isn't working then maybe the special drivers for the program aren't installed correctly or compatable with Vista.

Check Maxtor's web site for updates.

If this fails to make the back up program run then your fall back plan would be to use the built in backup program provided by Microsoft.

Here is a turorial I wrote for XP, it is close to the same for Vista -

Backup for Windows XP

Hope this helps...
