Asus G60JX windows 7 ultimate 64bit upgrade problems

by Joel
(Atlanta, GA)

So, I read one of your articles about how you upgraded you g60jx to windows 7 pro and seemed to have gotten everything working.

Well, I recently upgraded my windows installation by formatting the drive and doing a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate. I love the speed gains that i got from the new no-bloatware OS but I quickly found a lot of flaws.

Mainly my laptop wont hibernate or standby anymore. If I close the lid, the laptop just crashes and I have to restart again.

Same goes for if I manually select hibernate or standby from the menu. Another big issue is that the HDMI connector doesnt work, I tried hooking it up to various displays and no matter what I tried there was no output.

I haven't tried the VGA port yet but I doubt that works either.

Everything else however works just fine.

I've installed all the drivers straight from the asus site as well.

If you could please help me get my computer back to normal, that would be amazing.

Thank you.

Loading Windows 7 on an ASUS Laptop ...
by: Support

Hello Joel,

A couple of things I have found about ASUS's web site, see this blog post - http://www.fix-it-blog.com/?p=963

You will need to go to NVIDIA's web site and download the NVIDIA drivers for the video, the ASUS web site drivers didn't work for me either.

The DPMI should work with or with out the drivers loaded. Did you connect it when powered down then try to go in to the BIOS settings before going in to Windows? (There are some funciton keys that you may have to press to get the external display to come on: fn+F8 The Default is both displays (internal and external are on but if you have pressed the fn+F8 key it may be set to internal only).

As for the hibernation and standby those fuctions are controled by the Power Options. You can choose what the standby and hibernation does there also what closing the lid does. I have this one set to do nothing.

On the ASUS web site look for the Power 4G to refine the power settings. (I didn't install it for the Pro version because it is only available for the 64 bit version). This will give you more control over the power settings.

Hope this helps ...
