How to build a custom pc!

The parameters of the project:

Budget: $1000

Time: 1 month

Build a custom pc project parameters:

Desktop case, Motherboard that is upgradeable, P4 3 GHz processor, 1 gig of Ram, HiRes Video, 80+ Gig Hard drive, 4 or more usb ports, DVD drive, Audio, Wireless Network.

Specifications:

  • Case: Desktop, small form factor
  • Motherboard: has to have expandability!
  • Processor: P4 3GHz
  • Ram: 1 to 2 gig
  • Hard Drive: 80+ gig
  • DVD: Maybe a RW
  • Video: High Resolution with at least 256 meg of ram
  • Network: Wireless

While you are researching for your parts remember a few things:

  • You buy cheap and you get cheap, you will be replacing cheap parts sometimes with in a year.
  • You would do well to consider the expandability of the case and the motherboard together they will be your most expensive purchases. If you don't plan for upgrading the computer in the future you will spending the money again for something you already have.
  • Also consider the power supply with the newer processors the power requirements have increased. Older motherboards/processors you could get away with a 3-400 watt power supply. A Core 2 Duo will need at least a 550 Watt power supply. (Check the parts listing for the case you have picked out, does it come with a power supply?).

You will find more information on how to build a custom pc in the Build a Custom Computer Manual.
