Hello
As the summer goes, so does my
writing. Not much to write about. So some things that have came to my attention
over the last couple of weeks.Do you have
a Core 2 processor? I wrote an article about how to control which processor a
program used (Affinity), part of an 'Optimizing' scheme to get the most out of
your computer. Well the original Author of the program has sold/given his rights
to another author. The resulting program is quite useful and well written you
can download it here:
360desktop
Another program I have been using for the last
couple of weeks is called 360desktop. Those that have dual monitors will realize
how much more real estate two monitors gives you for opening applications. What
if you don't have the desktop space or the funds for a second monitor? What if
some clever gals and guys figured out a way to rotate your desktop through 360
degrees? Well they have and I think it is a great program. As a matter of fact I
think it is so great I will recommend it to anyone that has a space problem. You
know what I mean you look at your taskbar and see nine or ten maybe more
programs. True you can only work on one at a time but if you have them stacked
up one on top of another it takes a little time for the one on the bottom to
become active. So what this program does is it allows you to spread out your
programs across the 360 degrees of your monitor and all your programs are on
top. (Well with in reason, I had twelve programs running at one time and only
four were stacked and I have a 19" LCD screen). You can read about it here:
Affinity II Freeware for Windows XP
Have you ever wanted to have a simple desktop, you know one with out the
mountains and rivers, all those different colors? Well if you want to you can
make your desktop revert to the Windows 2000 desktop. Before the XP and
Vista themes. It is very simple all you have to do is turn off the Themes service. I
did a little research and decided to give it a try. I tested this on three
different computers, two with XP and one with Vista. It does work and you gain
back up to 4 kilobytes of memory (it doesn't sound like much but every bit helps
when you are optimizing for performance, especially on system with a minimum of
memory -ram). To turn off the Themes you need to go to the Services in the
Computer Management console. You have to disable the service, setting it to
manual will not stop it from running
Other news:
AVG 8 - As you know I brought up the fact that the original version or AVG 8
would not install on a XP Operating System computer if AVG 7.5 was installed on it then uninstalled.
The installation would fail. After submitting a bug report to AVG and waiting
for three weeks I have heard back from them. They indicate the problem has been
resolved, I downloaded the paid version that is en_8_138a1332, the free version
is also 138a1332. I have installed the en_8_138a1332 version of four test
computers with AVG 7.5, two I uninstalled 7.5 and two I let the AVG 8 install
program uninstall 7.5. The install for all four computers went as advertised. So
Grisoft has fixed the installation problems for the paid version.
Do you use cd or dvd's to back up your data? Did you know that the cheap
media will fail sooner than the more expensive? I received this article from a
blogger I write articles for on occasion:
