2nd Hard Drive

by Frank
(Australia)

I am running Windows XP Professional and have 2 hard drives, one is 75gb and the other is 466gb.
How can I can I use the 75gb one in conjunction with the 466gb which never gets used.
I have heard of mount points but am unsure how to apply it and if I do will this create an upset or problems between the two hard drives and and create problems with my programmes.

Installing a 2nd Hard Drive
by: Support

Hello Frank,

If you have the second hard drive installed in the computer and connected you should be able to intialize it through the Computer Management/Disk Manager.

First you need to know what type of drives you have, are they SATA or IDE. If they are SATA drives then the computer should see both drives if the SATA cable is connected to the motherboard interface.

If they are IDE and on the same interface cable then the 75GB drive will need to have the jumpers set to Master and the 466GB drive set to slave. If on the other hand the 466GB is on the same cable as the CD/DVD drive you need to set one as Master and the other as Slave, it does not matter which one is Master or Slave.

Have a look at this article I wrote about installing a hard drive -

Installing a Hard Drive

Also in the How to... section there are articles about using the Computer Management console.

Hope this helps...
